Proposed Future Developments in Playa Vista
Playa Vista's Village Town Center - A new retail and entertainment center on a 10-acre site that was formerly part of an old airstrip used by aerospace pioneer Howard Hughes. Developer Caruso Affiliated is working on preliminary design concepts for an open-air town center that will include additional housing. The Village Town Center will feature everyday conveniences—places to eat, shop and gather with friends—all complemented by easy access and parking. The center will also be flanked on two sides by public parks featuring areas for a variety of activities such as baseball, volleyball, chess, picnicking and frisbee. Caruso has developed many of Southern California's most popular and successful retail centers, including The Commons at Calabasas, The Promenade at Westlake, The Lakes at Thousand Oaks and The Grove.

This town center is the heart of The Village, which also allows for the creation of new public parks and 2,600 new residential units. The Village will add 29 acres of new parks and open space to Playa Vista.

In the Campus area, the Los Angeles Clippers will soon begin construction on a new training facility for its players—the first of its kind in Los Angeles—that is expected to be complete by the fall of 2007. Also arriving soon are a variety of new parks, such as the Sports Park, Oberreider Park and Celadon Gardens. The Sports Park will feature a baseball field, soccer field, two half basketball courts and two tennis courts in eight acres, while Oberreider Park will provide an area for dogs, two half-court basketball courts, and a paddle tennis court. Community garden plots will be available for use by residents at the Celadon Gardens, and the final piece of Crescent Park will feature Playa Links, a series of putting greens for golf enthusiasts made of synthetic turf.
